Biography:
Jack Helton and Terry Noble have been friends of basketball and friends of Charleston High School since their graduation. As scorekeeper and timer they had worked 2,000+ games at the time of their induction. They have worked all levels from junior high school to high school varsity. For nearly 20 years they worked as a team at the Charleston Holiday Tournament as well as IHSA Regionals, Sectionals and Super-sectionals. Many of the games were worked without pay. When the Charleston school system went through a financial crisis in the mid-1970’s it was business as usual for Helton and Noble. They were quick to volunteer their services until the school system “got on their feet”. Always cheerful and willing to help, the pair kept the score and the time at all Charleston High School games for both boys and girls as well as all games at the Charleston Junior High. They have also filmed and kept varsity football statistics for 20 years. They furnished and coordinated the radio communications system for the IHSA state track meet at Eastern Illinois University for three years until the IHSA was able to purchase a more modern system of their own. Their willingness to help Charleston High School makes them very special friends of basketball and the youth of the Charleston community.
