Roxana High School

Biography: Sam Hendon became close to Roxana High School basketball since 1953 when he was a part-time scorekeeper/timer in basketball and football. In 1970, Herndon became scorekeeper at home and on the road and continued through his induction. Doing so while his grandson played  for the Shells was especially enjoyable. Herndon exceled in a day and age where it is difficult to get good, qualified help to perform such tasks as scorekeeping. A task that certainly is extremely important, especially in close games when a steady mind must see all that happens and be prepared to offer assistance when requested by officials. Roxana High School has been fortunate to have Sam Herndon’s knowledge, integrity and steady hand behind the official’s table for 40 years. He has touched, in a positive way, the lives of a multitude of students, coaches, officials and fans.  Herndon feels his labors have been worthwhile because of the opportunity to watch so many great players and games while working with some fine officials. Hercidon said that he enjoyed seeing the game change and grow during his scorekeeping years.
