Bob Hildebrand was a standout player at (Glen Ellyn) Glenbard West High School and Northwestern University. He earned Class AA all-state and Sunkist All-American honors as a senior in high school. That same season he helped the Hilltoppers to their first West Suburban Conference championship in nearly two decades.
Hildebrand played three years on the varsity and led the team in rebounds and was second in scoring. His 80-foot shot in the final seconds of overtime to beat Hinsdale Central still stands as one of the longest shots in Illinois high school basketball history.
