Biography:

Chicago’s John Hodel began officiating in 1974. From 1975-99, Hodel worked about 75 high school games a year to develop an excellent background in a very challenging area of Chicago basketball.

From 1977-2003, he worked 22 IHSA Regionals, 15 IHSA Sectionals, two IHSA state finals, two Chicago Catholic League championships and five Chicago Public League championship and semifinal games.

From 1981 to his induction, Hodel worked many NCAA Division I and III and NAIA college games in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Indiana. He worked in the Mid-Continent and Missouri Valley conferences, the National Catholic Basketball Tournament and the Division III playoffs. He acted as assignment chairman for some of the small colleges in the Chicago area and was a board member on the Basketball Committee of the Central Officials Association.
