Biography:
Ralph Hooker is another great basketball player coached by IBCA Hall of Fame Coach Ernie Eveland at Paris High School. Ralph earned varsity letters in 1937, 1938, and 1939. He played in the 1938 IHSA State Tournament with a Paris team which placed 3rd. In 1939 Ralph and Paris were again in Champaign and finsihed 2nd to Rockford HS as Hooker scored 15 poins in a 53-44 loss. During the quarterfinals, in 1939, Ralph scored 25 points agains (Peoria) Woodruff High School which set the state finals single game record. He was named to the all tournament and all state teams in 1939.
Ralph played college basketball at the University of Illinois-Champaign, Eastern Illinois University and Indiana State University. While at ISU, he played agains George Mikan in DePaul’s Christmas Tournament where the Sycamores finished 2nd.
Ralph Hooker died on September 29, 1998 at the age of 77.
