Biography:

Gene Hoyt was an all-conference player in 1948 and 1949 at Trenton High School where he averaged nearly 19 ppg.  Gene helped McKendree College (now University) to three conference championships while playing there from 1950-54.  In his career Gene scored 2,510 points.  He ranked 13th nationally in points scored in the final three years of a college career.  Gene was named to the all-conference team three times and set McKendree’s all-time scoring record averaging nearly 22 ppg.  At one time Gene held 10 McKendree records.  He was the nation’s leading rebounder in 1952 with 27.3 rpg, which was still an NAIA record at the time of his induction.  He was also the nation’s leading scorer that year with a 29.9 ppg average.  Gene was an honoarable mention Converse All-American Player during the 1953-54 season.
