Biography:  Before becoming the head boys’ coach at Aurora West High School, Gordon Kerkman served as an assistant for long-time coach, John McDougal–during that time the Blackhawks finished 3rd in state (1973) and state runner-up (1976).  Beginning in the fall of 1976, Gordie replaced Coach McDougal and remained at Aurora West for 39 seasons–through 2015.  His teams earned an impressive record of 806-312.  Included in that run were 24 IHSA Regional Titles, 13 IHSA Sectional Championships, 8 IHSA Super-sectional Wins, and 8 appearances in the IHSA Elite Eight.  His teams finsihed 3rd in the IHSA State Tournament 3 times (1980, 1984, 2004); 2nd in state in 1997 and State Champions in 2000.  Gordie served the IBCA as a member of the board for many years and was the organization’s president from 1991-93.
