Biography

Jerry Krieg had a 418-316 record during his 27-year head coaching career. He started at (Kankakee) Bishop McNamara High School where his teams were 309-233 in 20 seasons. They won 10 IHSA Class A Regional titles, including seven straight from 1987-93. They also won 3 IHSA Sectional titles and 8 conference championships.

Krieg went 23-28 in two seasons at (Ottawa) Marquette High School before moving to St. Charles East High School, where he went 114-55 in five seasons. His 2001 team went to the IHSA Class AA Super-sectional game and his 2000 team won the IHSA Regional and the school’s first Upstate 8 Conference title in nearly 30 years. He left coaching after the 2003 season and moved into the athletic director’s role until he retired in 2011. He returned to the sideline as an assistant at (New Lenox) Providence Catholic High School and in 2014 came back to Bishop McNamara, where he helped his grandson’s team finish third in IHSA Class 2A in 2017.

In his first stint at Bishop McNamara, Krieg also served as defensive coordinator for the football teams that won the IHSA Class 3A state championships in 1982, 1985, 1986 and 1987. McNamara was 183-64 during his 20-year tenure. Krieg is a member of the Illinois State University Hall of Fame and was selected to the school’s All-Time football team. He earned Kodak Little All-American honors as a defensive end in 1969.
