Biography:    At the time of his induction Lowell has spent 21 years as the head basketball coach at (Hillside) Proviso West High School and 31 consecutive seasons of coaching the sport.  He is the winningest coach (in any sport) in the history of Proviso Township High Schools with 388 victories.  Prior to coaching at the Hillside school, Lowell spent time at State Fair College (Sedalia, MO), St. Charles and Knox City, MO and at Columbia High School in Illinois.  The veteran coach compiled a 550-239 career record.  He coached the IBCA Class AA North squad in the 1988 All Star Game and the Class AA All Stars agains Wisconsin in 1985.  Lucas coached several all state players at Proviso West and his teams won 5 West Suburban Conference titles, 7 IHSA Regionals and 15 holiday tournaments.  His 1984-85 team was ranked #9 in the nation by USA Today.  He has been the IBCA District V Coach of the Year twice.  Lowell Lucas died on March 6, 2024 at the age of 86.
