Biography

Bloomington’s Dick Luedke spent 18 years as the sports director for WJBC Radio and did two stints broadcasting Illinois State University basketball and football. Luedke broadcast more than 1,000 basketball and more than 300 football games for the Redbirds.

Luedke became the voice of ISU basketball and football in 1981 and covered several high school sporting events including basketball, football, baseball and volleyball. He also broadcast Illinois Wesleyan University basketball and football. Highlights of his career include calling the action of Illinois Wesleyan winning the NCAA Division III national men’s basketball championship in 1997 and broadcasting Illinois State’s trips to the NCAA basketball tournament.

Luedke also was a broadcaster for the IHSA TV Network and covered the Class A and AA state basketball tournament finals in Champaign. He left WJBC in 1998 to work with State Farm, but remained involved in athletics as a statistician for ISU men’s basketball and as the PA announcer for ISU volleyball. He made his return to the booth to call ISU basketball in the 2003-04 season and came back for ISU football in 2008.
