Biography:

Brad Meyer made an auspicious self-introduction to Nashville High School basketball. Inserted long after a game at Okawville was decided in favor of the hosts, Meyer scored 10 points in only a minute. Every time he touched the ball, through the hoop it went, and a lopsided loss ended as a 8-point defeat.

Chuck Trent, the Sparta play-by-play announcer, became a great prophet when he told his listeners, “Hornet fans are going to be hearing a lot of Brad Meyer in years to come.” And hearing Brad “Bo” Meyer they have.

Meyer called games at WMIX in Mount Vernon and WNSV in Nashville for 42 years before retiring in 2020. He called games for 35 years with fellow IBCA Hall of Famer Brad “Beefcake” McClay. Meyer broadcast thousands of boys’ and girls’ basketball, baseball, volleyball and football games. He was known for describing spectacular plays with the same enthusiasm no matter which team made them. He was at home on the air or before a live audience.

More than 25 years after Meyer’s Miracle Minute, Trent summarized his feelings for Meyer’s broadcast career. “If I consider a radio sportscaster to be better than Yours Truly, the guy must be good.”
