Biography: In the fall of 1946, Ed Mills was discharged from the US Air Force after 38 months of service. He joined the staff at Vandalia High School as a biology teacher and assistant coach in basketball, football and head track coach. Mills spent 44 years serving the basketball program as its scorekeeper. His greatest wish was, that through his interest and enthusiasm, he played a small part in molding strong character and clean sportsmanship traits in young athletes.  He was appreciative of the opportunity to serve Vandalia youth. His induction into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame is just a small payment for his countless hours of devotion. Mills considered it the pinnacle of his life. He earned the respect, confidence and admiration of the people of the Vandalia area. His valuable service earned for him the respect of officials, coaches and fans.  Ed Mills died on August 30, 2009 at the age of 95.
