Biography:
T.J. Posey was a three-year starter at Crescent-Iroquois High School before transferring to Prairie Central High School in Fairbury for his senior year when his father Tom became the school’s head coach. He scored 1,823 career points for a 22.7 average, had 392 assists (4.4) and made 80 percent of his free throws. He shot 45 percent from 3-point range and 52 percent from the field and averaged 6.1 rebounds as a guard.
His 313 3-pointers ranked 19th in IHSA history as of 2021 and he went 55 straight games where he made a 3. He scored in double figures in all but two games during his career as his teams were a combined 95-15. He was an IBCA Class A all-state selection and the Corn Belt Conference Player of the Year in 1991. He also earned first-team all-area selections from newspapers in Bloomington-Normal, Champaign-Urbana and Kankakee.
As a three-year letterman at Illinois Wesleyan University, Posey was on a team that won three straight CCIW championships. The Titans advanced to the NCAA Division III national tournament in his final three years and finished third in his senior year with a school-record 28-3 mark. He averaged 9.9 points a game for his career and led the Titans in assists as a senior with 150.
