Biography

Rudy Presslak became the voice of (Chicago) St. Patrick High School basketball in 1978 and in the 325 home games leading up to his induction, he only missed nine because of illness. His voice was synonymous with the legacy of St. Patrick basketball.

The “R-Bear,” as he was affectionately known, thundered the call of a game throughout the rafters of the St. Patrick Gymnasium, which is recognized as one of the toughest places in Chicagoland to play. He utilized a knack for nicknames and generated intense enthusiasm from the renowned student section at St. Patrick.

He was recognized annually by his peers, especially officials, as the premier voice of Chicago high school basketball. He embodied a passion for detail and a true sense of loyalty to the Shamrocks. Presslak was an English teacher, guidance counselor, Dean of Students and head baseball coach during his 44 years at the school.  Rudy was inducted into the St. Patrick Shamrock Hall of Fame in 2008.

Rudy Presslak died on February 12, 2018 at the age of 68.
