Biography: At the time of her induction, Lorene Ramsey was the most successful junior college women’s coach in the country. In 33 seasons at Illinois Central College (ICC), Lorene compiled a 887-197 record. Included in these numbers are 16 trips to the Women’s NJCAA National Tournament. In 12 of those trips, her teams finished in 8th place or higher. Her squads in 1992, 1993, 1998, 1999, and 2003 won the NJCAA Division II National Championship.
Her teams won 30+ games in 12 seasons. In 15 seasons, her teams won 20+ games. In 1981 and 1988 Lorene was named the NJCAA Women’s Coach of the Year.
Because of her unparalelled success, Lorene was asked to coach at the international level on 5 occasions. She represented the USA at the college and select levels as they completed against the best players in the world.
Lorene has been inducted into 10 halls of fame including the National Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. In addition to her basketball exploits, she was an outstanding softball player and coach.
Lorene Ramsey is a true pioneer for women’s basketball. She is the first female coach inducted into the IBCA Hall of Fame.
