Biography: Curt Reed’s teams experienced success on both the high school and junior high levels. He compiled a 35-year varsity boys record of 633-400 at Wyanet, Tremont and McLeansboro High Schools as of his retirement in 2011. For the 26 years before his induction, Reed was a varsity coach at McLeansboro. Prior to taking over for David Lee, he spent 11 years at McLeansboro as junior high or varsity assistant. As the junior high coach he posted a 149-71 record and won a Southern Illinois Elementary School state championship. Reed served as an assistant as the Foxes won the 1984 IHSA Class A state championship 57-50 over Mount Pulaski behind Mr. Basketball Brian Sloan. In 1991 he led the Foxes to third place in the IHSA Class A finals. Reed’s teams won 20 games 13 times and ruled 10 IHSA Regionals under him. He was named Independent Coach of the Year twice and IBCA District 20 Coach of the Year once. Anyone knowing Reed knows his teams are always a very competitive and hard-nosed reflection of his personality.
