Biography:

Narcissa Roberts taught physical education, driver’s education and coached for 37 years at Corliss, Little Flower and Lindblom high schools in Chicago. She also coached tennis for 8 years, bowling for 2 years and volleyball for 10 years.

But basketball was her true love and she coached for 22 years. Roberts was known for her winning teams. Her 1978-79 Corliss team went 20-5, won the Chicago Public League Red-South Division Championship and advanced to the City Championship where it finished as the runner-up. In 1992, her team won the Blue-South Division Championship.

For her efforts, Roberts was named Coach of the Year in 1997 by the Willye White Foundation. She is also a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Narcissa’s love for basketball and other sports is unending and she continued throughout her career to be instrumental in acquiring athletic scholarships for young ladies eager to continue on the university level.

Narcissa Roberts died on May 4, 2024.
