Biography:  In 37 seasons as a varsity basketball coach at Mason City High School, Washington High School, Edwardsville High School, Jacksonville High School, Decatur High School and (Decatur) Eisenhower High School Mel Roustio compiled a record of 541-422.  The Jacksonville Crimsons had produced a 5-year mark of 49-75 with only one winning season before Roustio assumed command.  His 21 years there produced a 311-241 record 13 winning seasons that included 4 IHSA Regional crowns and 2 IHSA Sectional titles.  Many of Mel’s players continued their careers at the collegiate level.  Mel coached the IBCA Class AA South All Stars in the 1988 game.  He has been an IBCA District Coach of the Year four times.  Mel served the IBCA as a member of the All State Selection Committee.  He was a color analyst during the Boys Class AA Finals beginning in 1989 for several years.  He also coached in the Prairie State Games and remained a consultant for the IBCA for years after his retirement.
