Biography: George Runkle made significant contributions to Rushville High School and Bradley University basketball. George received four letters at Rushville High School and was named all Spoon River Conference, twice. As a senior during the 1939-40 season, George was an all-state player selection.
He was Rushville’s leading scorer as both a junior and senior. During his senior season, he was also named to the Macomb Invitational all-tourney team. George led the team to 18-4 and 20-7 records during his final two seasons. The 1940 team reached the IHSA tournament at Champaign by defeating strong teams from Peoria Central and Peoria Manual High Schools.
George played in 45 games during his career at Bradley, scoring a total of 245 points for the Braves.
George Runkle died on December 24, 2009 at the age of 87.
