Biography

The Schuettes were supporters of the Quincy Blue Devils’ program since the days of Hall of Fame coach Sherril Hanks in the 1960’s.  They became season-ticket holders in 1971 and drove a church bus filled with students to away games when Hanks was coaching. They helped Hall of Fame coach Jerry Leggett organize the annual spaghetti dinner that continued to prosper as a means of raising funds to help defray costs for summer programs. They were also involved with the Little Devils’ program for 14 years.

Whether it was cooking, cleaning, helping promote or sell programs, the Schuettes were there to help. During the summer they were on hand to drive players and families to sporting events. During the season they baked treats, helped with the Thanksgiving Holiday Tournament Honorary Coaches Committee and kept the Hall of Fame room open.

They could remember missing only two games through 2003 because of illness and a death in the family. That number included summer and regular-season games. They also attended as many junior high games as possible.

The Schuettes were inducted into the Quincy Blue Devils Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.

Ed Schuette died on March 22, 2004 at the age of 76.

Jean Schuette died on May 14, 2018 at the age of 84.
