Biography: Seymour Bryson played well enough for the George Latham coached Quincy High School teams in 1954-55 to lead them to the state finals. He was later inducted into the Quincy HS Hall of Fame.
When Seymour arrived in Carbondale to attend SIU in the fall of 1955, he could not have imagined that he would stay at the school for his entire career. Seymour was a 4 year letterman for the Salukis. He set the career scoring record of 1,535 points. He also set the career rebounding record with 1,228 grabs. This record still stands in 2025. Seymour was the team MVP for three seasons and the Saluki captain for his final 2 seasons. He is a member of the SIU-C Hall of Fame.
After his collegiate career ended, Seymour stayed in Carbondale and earned his Masters and PHd degrees. He became a full professor and later was the Associate Chancellor of the university until his retirement in 2008. During his administrative tenure, Seymour’s endeavors earned over $50 million in external grants for the school.
Seymour Bryson died on May 5, 2019 at the age of 82.
