Biography: During his senior season, Ahmad Shareef helped lead (Chicago) M.L. King High School to a perfect 32-0 record in 1990. The team were Chicago Public League Champions, IHSA Class AA State Champions and the USA Today mythical national champion. He averaged 15 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds a game and earned all-City honors. In the state tournament he averaged 9 points and 3 assists. During his junior year, King took third in the state as Shareef averaged 10 points and 4 rebounds in the state tournament. He also started for the 1988 Chicago Public League runner-up.
Shareef went on to the University of Pittsburgh where he played for four years and spent two as team captain. He averaged 6.1 points for his career and played on two NCAA tournament qualifiers. His 10 points and 7 rebounds earned him Chevrolet Player of the Game honors during a 1993 NCAA game against Utah where he had 10 points and 7 rebounds.
He returned home to work with Chicago Public Schools in 2003 and became the girls’ basketball coach and athletic director at Douglass Academy.
