Biography

Rick Shipley graduated from Centralia High School in 1987 with 1,196 points as a three-year starter. The 1987 team went 20-7 and won the Centralia Holiday Tournament for the first time since 1964 with Shipley earning first-team all-tourney honors. He also received the Salem Tournament MVP, played in the IBCA All-Star Game and was named United Press International (UPI) second-team all-state.

Shipley had a four-year career at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and at the time of his graduation  ranked fifth in rebounds (983), 13th in rebound average (7.7 per game) and 19th in career points (1,359). He started 122 of 127 games and helped the Salukis win a then-school record 26 games as a junior. In 1991, he was second-team all-Missouri Valley Conference and led the league in rebounding at 9 per game. Shipley is a member of the Centralia High School Hall of Fame and was in the 2006 Class of the Southern Illinois University Hall of Fame.
