Biography: Lewis was a highly respected coach and mentor for 20 years as a boys’ head coach.  The final 18 seasons were at (Chicago) North Lawndale Charter High School.  Lewis coached North Lawndale to the IHSA Class 2A State Championship in 2008 with a 30-4 record.  The Phoenix also placed 2nd in Class A in 2007 and 3rd place in Class 3A in 2009.  The 2009 squad also won the prestigious Chicago Public League title with a thrilling 54-51 overtime win over Hyde Park.  Sadly, Lewis Thorpe passed away on October 25, 2018 as he was preparing for the upcoming season.
