Biography:  Ray Toland served as a head boys’ basketball coach for 24 years.  He started at Greenview High School in 1968 where he compiled a 2-year record of 58-22.  From Greenview, Ray made a short stop at Virginia High School in 1971 where he guided this team to a 9-15 mark.  Six years at Pleasant Plains High School (1972-77) saw Ray Toland’s teams compile a 111-49 record.  Ray made one more stop at Tuscola High School (1978) before moving on to (Petersburg) PORTA High School where he was the head coach for 13 years, guiding his teams to a 217-147 recrod.  Ray’s overall record for his 24 seasons as a head coach was 407-248.

Among his accoomplishments in those 24 seasons were 9 conference championships, 2 IHSA District titles, 7 IHSA Regional Championships, 2 IHSA Sectional Titles, and 1 IHSA Super-sectional victory in 1977.  Ray’s teams won 13 holiday tournaments.  One of Ray’s proudest accomplishments was coaching his son, Mark.
