Biography: The late Ray Umbright was the head boys’ basketball coach at (Chicago) Lane Tech High School from 1919-1954, winning Chicago Public League titles in 1924, 1926, 1934 and 1939.  He also had 3 second place finishes.  His 1934 team advanced to the IHSA Elite Eight of the state tournament.  Lane Tech defeated Springfield 13-11 in 3 overtimes in the Sweet 16 game that year.  In 1938, his squad lost in the Sweet 16 to (Berwyn-Cicero) Morton High School 42-37.
