Fred “Bud” Von Boeckman

Biography: Fred “Bud” Von Boeckman died on July 20, 1982, but eight years later he was still remembered as one of the finest supporters of Pekin Community High School coaches and players.  Then Pekin Mayor Larry Homerin proclaimed August 3, 1990, Bud Von Boeckman Day in Pekin. Von Boeckman was considered the best athlete pound for pound ever produced by PCHS.  He was a three sport starter from 1930-1934, under Frenchy Haussler and Jim Lewis. Von Boeckman was a season ticket holder in basketball and football for 45 years. He was a super booster of the IBCA when he died at age 67. For 15 years Von Boeckman was a high school basketball official. A top notch softball player as a shortstop, he was inducted into the Illinois ASA softball Hall of Fame in 1990. His love of Pekin  Community High School sports was unmatched as was his love of the town, It is little wonder longtime coaches Harry Anderson and Dawdy Hawkins considered him their greatest supporter.
