Biography: 

At the time of his induction, Dick Wentura had spent a good part of his time since 1957 as a member of the Quincy High School bench crew. As a senior in high school, he first began running the clock as a favor to coach Howard Dewell.

Wentura attended Blue Devils’ games for more than 50 years. He occupied his courtside seat since 1957 with the exception of a few years when Jerry Leggett was coach. He attended Western Illinois and Northeast Missouri State but never missed a Quincy game.

Wentura said everything revolved around Quincy basketball, including vacations and family functions. He served as timer for all home Blue Devils’ games and had the same job at Quincy University beginning in 1975 when the Blue Devils’ games didn’t conflict. He was inducted into the Quincy Blue Devils Sports Hall of Fame.
