Biography: Norm Goodman and Leyden basketball were a magnificent matchup. Norm came to (franklin Park) Leydan and East Leydan High Schools in 1957. He assumed the Head Boys’ Basketball Coaching position in 1961. He held that position through his retirement in 1990. His teams compiled a 548-185 record over 29 seasons (a 74% winning rate). These teams won 6 IHSA Regional titles, 2 IHSA Sectional titles, 7 Thanksgiving tournament crowns and 5 Christmas tourney titles. Goodman-coached teams compiled a then IHSA record of 108 consecutive regular season victories from 1973-1979. In the Des Plaines Valley League, these same teams ripped off 71 consecutive wins. At the time of his induction, Leyden had earned 11 DPVL titles while coached by Norm. In 2009, the court at the Leydan fieldhouse was named for this legendary coach. Norm Goodman died on October 3, 2012.
