Biography: With many players returning from the previous two seasons, when Hinckley-Big Rock twice reached the sectional finals and posted 27-4 and 28-3 overall records, the Lady Royals had high expectations for 2008-2009.

After starting the season 4-2, H-BR won 27 of their final 28 games to capture the IHSA Class 1A State Championship.  The Lady Royals avenged an early season loss to Newark High School by winning the Little Ten Conference Tournament Championship in mid-January.  The two teams met again in the Serena Class 1A Sectional final with H-BR advanceding with a thrilling 47-46 victory.

H-BR then defeated once-beaten Dakota 53-44 in the Elgin Community College Super-sectional to advance to the state tournament.  The Lady Royals topped Ridgeview 52-37 in the state semifinal before beating West Central Co-op 42-30 in the state title game.  The championship game win was the team’s 20th straight victory and brought home the first state title in any sport for their school.  The team finished 31-3 overall.
