Biography: Otho Tucker set a single season scoring record as a freshman at Chrisman High School. But the next season (1968-69) Tucker was starting at Paris High School and was named all-conference and all-holiday tourney as well as special mention all-state. Tucker repeated as a junior. As a senior, Tucker led the Tigers to a 30-0 record before losing to Danville 63-61 in the first round of the Elite Eight. Tucker was the most valuable player and captain of the Tigers as well as all-time leading scoring leader. He was named captain of the Chicago Daily News All-State Team and was named to every team picked in Illinois. Tucker was accorded Sunkist, National Scholastic and Scholastic Magazine All-American honors. On the freshman team at the University of Illinois, Tucker was the scoring and assists leader as well as defensive player of the year. Tucker, 3 times a varsity player, won the George Huff award for honors in scholastics while earning a varsity letter. Tucker led Illinois in assists all three years and established a one-season and career record. Three times he earned the defensive award. Tucker was first team all-Big Ten scholastic as a senior as well as Scholastic All-American. Tucker was drafted by the Boston Celtics.
