Biography: Jim Murray began a 33-year career as a sports broadcaster in 1958 in Sedalia, MO, for KDRO following graduation from St. Louis University. A year later Murray was behind the microphone for WSOY in Decatur where he added college football and basketball to the high school game. Murray’s next stop was at WTIM in Taylorville for three years. Finally Murray moved to Morris in 1967 as part owner for seven years of WCSJ. After spending a few years out of the radio business, Murray returned to WCSJ-AM and WUEZ-FM for 19 more seasons. High points in his play-by-play career would include Stephen Decatur’s state championship, which was the last state tourney game played at the University of Illinois’ Huff Gym. Murray described the girl’s state tourney when the Seneca girls gained the title game. Three times Murray has described the title game. Three times Murray has described the exploits of Morris in state championship football games. Jim Murray died on November 16, 2017 at the age of 88.
