Biography:

Dennis Daugherty of Morrisonville was closely associated with basketball teams at Morrisonville, Taylorville, Edinburg High Schools and the Mohawk, Tomahawk and Waverly tournaments. Daugherty was scorekeeper for all games at Morrisonville from 1967-69 and 1974-85, along with the Mohawk and Tomahawk tournaments. He also was a timekeeper for the junior high and a substitute varsity timekeeper since 1967.

Daugherty helped organize and keep statistics for the Taylorville girls’ varsity since 1996. A year later he became the scorekeeper for away games and filled in as needed for home games. Daugherty joined the Taylorville varsity boys as timekeeper and substitute scorekeeper in 1999.

He became the statistician of the Waverly Holiday Tournament in 1975 and the Edinburg frosh-soph tourney in 1994. Statistics for the Edinburg Varsity Thanksgiving Tournament were kept by Daugherty from its inception. He helped create and manage the Tomahawk Tournament since it started in 1978. In all 22 seasons of the Mohawk Tournament he was the statistician. 

In 1967, Daugherty started providing game results and information to radio and TV stations and newspapers. He was a sportswriter for the Morrisonville Times in the 1960’s and 1970’s. He started working as a reporter in basketball and football for the Breeze Courier in 1985.

Daugherty also found time to keep score for the Morrisonville baseball teams and was involved in several summer youth programs. Dennis Daugherty died on Feb. 19, 2015 at the age of 63.
