Biography:

At the time of his induction, Lou Canellis was a popular figure amongst the Chicago sports community because of his successful TV and radio career spanning 37 years, and counting.

In the 1990’s, Mr. Canellis reported on the 6-time World Champion Chicago Bulls, interviewing Michael Jordan after every game. This turning point in his career led to work with ESPN TV & Radio, Super Bowls, World Series, and multiple summer Olympics. Over the previous 18 years, Mr. Canellis held the position as lead sports anchor on FOX 32 in Chicago, and hosted Chicago Bears Game Day coverage.

Mr. Canellis, who is a graduate of Oak Lawn Community High School (1982) and Loyola University in Chicago, has been recognized for his exemplary broadcasting, winning six Emmy Awards over the course of his career. He’s also been honored for his philanthropic efforts, which include proudly serving on the Board of Directors of Ronald McDonald House Charities and as a “Real Men Wear Pink” Ambassador for The American Cancer Society. In addition, he’s used his broadcasting platform and skill set to be a volunteer emcee of countless charitable fundraisers to support those in need.

His work ethic and commitment to giving back comes from his father and grandfather, who immigrated to the US from Tripoli, Greece in 1919. He currently resides in his hometown of Chicago with his wife Monica and daughter Gia.

Lou was inducted into the Oak Law Community High School Alumni Hall of Fame in 1998.
