Biography:

Poplar Grove resident Gene “Butch” Peters is a familiar face around the (Poplar Grove) North Boone High School football and basketball scenes. For 30 years, Peters charted statistics for the Upstate Illini Conference Vikings’ basketball team and did the same for 20 years’ of the school’s football program. From 1971-2002, he drove a North Boone bus for school athletic events.

Twice Peters chaired fundraisers for individuals in need and he served on a fundraiser board for the Northern Illinois Special Olympics. Peters’ volunteer efforts did not go unnoticed. In 2001, he received the Poplar Grove Lions Neighbor of the Year Award.
