Biography: Ralph Sterrett, of Streater, made three coaching stops in his career. Sterrett, in those 23 years, produced a 366-262 record. He started his career at Kirksville, MO, from 1981-64 before moving to Alton from 1964-73. His last move was to Streator where he served 11 years as basketball coach before continuing on as athletic director. Sterrett produced three undefeated conference championship teams, claimed five IHSA Regional championships and produced nine Division I college basketball players. Besides basketball duties, Sterrett served three years as golf coach at Kirksville with his team finishing fifth in the state in 1963. Sterrett coached boys’ tennis for nine years and girls’ tennis for five years. He is a member of the American Basketball Coaches Association, Illinois High School Coaches Association and the IBCA. In addition, Sterrett served as president of the Southwestern Illinois Coaches Association in 1970-71. A member of the Athletic Directors Association, Sterrett was a nominee in 1988 for Athletic Director of the Year. He has organized and conducted successful winter and summer basketball camps for 14 years.
