Biography:

As a three-year starter at North Chicago High School, Bob Armstead established 18 season and career records from 1957-1959. His 1360 points set a career scoring mark as did his 564 field goals. As a sophomore, the 6 foot 4 Armstead averaged 16.8 points, as a junior, 15.8 and as a senior, 21.1. Three times he was named all-conference and three times he was named to the Lake County All-Star team. As a junior and senior, Armstead was named all-Chicago area. As a senior, he was named to the Top 500 list nationally. As a senior he once pulled down 16 defensive rebounds and in another game had 15 offensive rebounds. He also had a 26 rebound game. Armstead attended Northern Michigan University where he played under Stan Albeck. At the Marquette, Michigan school, Armstead ranked seventh in career scoring with 1,257 points, ranked 10th all-time career scoring average with a 16.3 average. Twice Armstead was the season scoring leader with  averages of 18.3 in 1961-62 and 17.0 in 1962-63

The 1962 most valuable player and 1963 captain was inducted into the Northern Michigan Hall of Fame in 1976.
