Biography:
The 1989 Teutopolis girls’ basketball team finished with a 31-1 record and No. 1 final regular-season Associated Press Class A ranking. Their only loss was to Class AA state champion (Chicago) Marshall High School by 3 points. Led by the twin towers of 6-foot-3 Connie Ruholl and 6-1 Vicky Klingler, this group of players won 54 straight games and finished 63-1 in the back-to-back seasons.
Connie Ruholl became the first player to play on three state championship teams. With seniors Kristy Grunloh, Marsha Campbell, Connie Ruholl and Stacey Goeckner, and a strong group of juniors, the team set several state tournament records. They met every challenge with the same tradition – Defense – Effort – Hustle – Attitude.
Campbell (15.3 ppg), Klingler (12.3 ppg) and Ruholl (12 ppg) made first-team all-tourney for the Elite Eight in Champaign. Campbell scored 22 as the Wooden Shoes edged Hume Shiloh High School 46-44 in the championship game.
