John Thiel

Biography: John Thiel was the head coach at Galesburg HS, perennially one of Illinois’ elite teams.  Coach Thiel guided 9 Silver Streak teams to the Sweet 16, with a 3^rd place finish in 1959 and 2^nd place finishes in 1966 and 1968.  Coach Thiel’s teams won 15 Regionals, 13 Conference Championships.  His career record is 396-90.  Coach Thiel retired in 1973 just as he was selected for induction to the Hall of Fame by the IBCA.  John passed away on April 29, 1988.
