Biography: Eugene (Duke) Towner coached at Kansas, Gridley, and Lexington.  His teams won 36 major championships with a total record of 472-248 in 27 years of coaching.  Duke was considered to be one of the truly great small school coaches of his time.  At the time of his induction in 1974, he was retired from coaching and teaching.  Eugene passed away on October 25, 1991.
