Biography: The 2007 Friars were ranked either #1 or #2 in the state all season and as high as #2 in the national rankings. Facing 19 state-ranked opponents and several nationally ranked teams, this Friar team was prepared to make its quest for a state championship into a reality. The squad opened state tournament play in Bloomington in the quarterfinals by defeating Sterling High School 55-29. They then knocked off (Chicago Heights) Marian Catholic High School 53-30 in the semi-final game. They downed an outstanding Bolingbrook High School team 35-27 for the championship. The Friars became the final Class AA champion in the IHSA 2 class system. Their final record was 36-2. They were the ESCC champions for a record 13th consecutive season and were also champions of the Niles North Thanksgiving Tournament and the Dundee Crown Christmas Classic. The coaches, athletic staff and administration that helped turn the dream into a a reality included: Coaches–Dave Power, William Power, Sarah Kwanzinski, Pat Van DeWalle, Dale Heidloff, John Weaver, Kendall Griffin and Karrie Fortman; Athletic Director–Michael Curtin; Women’s Athletic Coordinator–Lori Heidloff; Trainer–Dana Sibe; Principal–Dr. James Quaid and President Fr. Richard LaPata, PP.
