Biography: The 1989-90 season was unforgettable for the Wesclin Warriors as they won a school-record 30 games with only 3 losses en route to an IHSA Class A boys title. They finished the regular-season ranked fourth in the state and in the Elite Eight beat Shelbyville, Aurora Christian and unbeaten and top-ranked Fairbury Prairie Central 83-78 in double overtime in the title game. Brent Brede had 36 points and 13 rebounds as the Warriors rallied from an 8-point deficit after three quarters. The 6-foot-4 duo of Brede and Paul Lusk combined to average 44 points a game to make the all-tournament team and Matt Fridley averaged 16.7. Wesclin won the Vandalia Holiday Tournament, the Nashville Invitational and the Cahokia Conference title. Brede went on to play three seasons of Major League Baseball with the Twins and Diamondbacks.
