Biography: Stan Patrick was a star player for (Chicago) Leo High School. Patrick was the team’s leading scorer in 1938-39 and 1939-40. Things were no different when he attended Santa Clara College (CA) where he was the school’s leading scorer for three seasons, 1941-43. As a freshman he set the Santa Clara mark. He established the Santa Clara single game mark when he netted 36 points against St. Mary’s. He transferred to The University of Illinois for his senior year in college where he was leading scorer, most valuable player, captain and a member of the College All-Stars. Patrick was a member of the Chicago American Gears from 1944 to 1947. He was the leading scorer in 1944, 1945, and 1946. He set an individual game record for the National Basketball League of 36 points against Pittsburgh in 1945. In addition, Patrick was an all-pro in 1945, 1946, and 1948. The 1947 Gears were the world champions. Patrick later played with Dow Chemical, Hammond, Ind., Waterloo and Sheboygan. (Note that the NBL was the predecessor of the NBA.)  Patrick was basketball coach at Belvidere from 1950-1960, compiling a record of 124-106 where he served as a government teacher at the high school.  Stan Patrick passed away on January 1, 2000 at the age of 77.
