Biography: John graduated from Springfield Feitshans High School in 1956 with 1,836 career points. He averaged 19.3 points per game and held the Springfield city scoring record for 29 years before it was broken by 1985 Illinois Mr. Basketball, Ed Horton.  John earned a scholarship to the University of Illinois and played three seasons. He later became a prominent U of I booster and is a 1997 inductee in the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame.  John Homeier died on January 23, 2012 at the age of 75.
