Biography: William Sarver remains one of the greatest basketball players in Chenoa High School history. His career scoring mark of 1,728 is still a benchmark. Sarver was an all IIAC player at Illinois State University in 1952, 1953, and 1954. He was the league MVP in 1954 as well as on the “Little All-American” list. In 1955-56, William was an all-Army selection and represented that branch of service at the 1956 Olympic trials. As a 5’11’ collegiate guard, Sarver scored 1,798 points (an 18.9 ppg average) for the Redbirds. He then played for Allen-Bradley in the National Industrial Basketball Association in 1956-57. William died on January 18, 2020 at the age of 87.
