Biography: Larry Wyllie was considered a shooter’s shooter. In 1955, he led his Downers Grove North High School squad to the top spot in the Western Suburban Conference, ending a 4-year run by LaGrange High School. Larry led the Trojans with an average of 17.3 ppg. In addition to the conference crown, Larry and his teammates were IHSA Regional Champs (1954-55). On he went to Marquette University before transferring to Northern Illinois University to become a Huskie legend. He has been tabbed on Northern Illinois All-Century Team (tied as No. 3 vote-getter in 1999) and All-Time Evans Field House Team (1997). Larry set NCAA College Division Tournament game records for points (48) and field goals (20) vs. Hope College (March 14, 1958) in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. He graduated with seven school records: game points (52) and baskets (23) vs. Eastern Michigan (February 15, 1958); season points scored (570 in 1957-58); season scoring average (25.9 ppg. in 1957-58); season baskets made (231 in 1957-58); Evans Field House game points (36, vs. Wisconsin-Platteville, December 7, 1957); and career scoring average (22.2 ppg. in 1957-59). Larry still owns two of the top single-game scoring games in Huskie history. He won the IIAC scoring title (25.6 ppg. in 12 loop games) by 79 points and finished No. 5 in NCAA College Division scoring (25.9 ppg. in 1957-58). He was ranked No. 1 in NCAA College Division game field goals (23) and No. 3 in game points (52) as a junior. Larry set the IIAC single game point (52) mark. He led Huskies in scoring as junior and senior (18.5 ppg.) despite an off-season shooting hand surgery in final year. These achievements earned Larry two-time Second-Team All-IIAC. Larry posted 16 career games of 20 points scored and seven of 30 points scored. Larry also played for the NIU baseball team(1956-57) where he went 2-2 with 2.25 ERA as a pitcher as a soph.
