Biography: Stuart Schmidt of West Frankfort was one of the premier basketball officials in Southern Illinois for 27 years. Schmidt worked 10 IHSA District assignments, 21 IHSA Regionals and three IHSA Sectionals. Schmidt worked tournaments at Carbondale, Centralia, Benton, Harrisburg, Ridgeway and McLeansboro. Besides basketball, Schmidt also officiated football for 27 years, was a starter in track for 40 years and umpired baseball for several years, including two at the IHSA State Tournament in Peoria.  Stuart died in January of 2008.
