Biography: Calvin Flavel was a fixture when it came to Ottawa-Marquette High School basketball and football. This Streator resident was the official timer for Marquette basketball and football for 25 years. Flavel hadn’t missed an Ottawa-Marquette basketball game in any of those years. It’s said Flavel was an avid Marquette fan at all levels, missing only one game at any of the levels since his association with the school began. Flavel, a teacher at Marquette, picked up Marquette students and athletes in Streator and brought them to school. He also drove those basketball players and football players from Streator on the Marquette roster home after games. Flavel says he is proud of his 25-year association with Ottawa-Marquette. Without a doubt, Ottawa-Marquette was proud of its 25-year association with Calvin Flavel. Calvin Flavel died on April 22, 2018 at the age of 86.
