Biography: George coached basketball for 37 years, including 17 as varsity girls’ coach at Mattoon High School.  His teams there had a 339-165 record with 10 IHSA Regional Championships, 1 IHSA Sectional Title, and 1 IHSA Super-sectional appearance.  Overall, George had 470 coaching victories at all levels–high school and junior high school.  His teams won 73% of their games.  He guided Mattoon to 3 conference titles and his 1988 8th grade team won the IESA State Championship.
