Biography: Tom Dineen started and finished his 29-year stint as Buffalo Grove’s girls head coach with state trophies and in between won an IHSA Class AA state title in 2000. Dineen also spent six years at Stevenson High School en route to an 810-277 record that ranked him fourth in career girls victories in Illinois history as of 2019. Dineen was 678-229 at Buffalo Grove and his first team in 1980 took fourth in Class AA. His final team in 2008 finished third in Class 4A and was his ninth trip to the Elite Eight. His Bison teams won 25 IHSA Regional titles and 11 IHSA Sectional titles and had four 30-win seasons. Only two of his teams finished with a losing record. In 2000, Dineen was named the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association National High School Coach of the Year. After retiring as a teacher at Buffalo Grove, Dineen moved to Stevenson and won two more regional titles. All six of his Stevenson teams won 20 games.
